‘Now is not the time for small plans’ – reflections on the Democratic Convention

I have to admit, I really haven’t been paying much attention. And since I’m on the Obama organizations mailing lists, I’ve been trending most towards cynicism of late as I was exposed continually to crass appeals for donations in the name of ‘change’. So I’ve been following the convention mainly by listening to the NPR coverage and synopsis.

Even so, I have to admit that listening to the roll call, particularly Hillary Clintons appeal, brought tears to my eyes. I was surprisingly moved. Likewise watching the speeches today I couldn’t help but think about the historic nature of ths convention.

And where I was guarded in my support of Obama in a discussion just hours ago, after listening to him speak to close the convention I have been completely converted again into a strong and unabashed supporter. He says all the right things. And I think he truly believes.

“America, now is not the time for small plans.”  Well said, and so true.
